A menu bar companion to Apple Reminders.

Barrie isn't a new to-do app. It's your existing Reminders, one keystroke away. Everything you see and everything you add is a real Apple reminder, in your real lists, on all your devices.

The Barrie panel floating over a macOS desktop, showing reminders grouped into Overdue, This week, Later, No due date, and Done today

Everything within reach

Live counts in your menu bar

Overdue in red, due today beside it. Glance, don't open. Clear the day and it turns into a quiet checkmark.

Type it like you'd say it

Dates, places, priority and lists get parsed live and previewed as chips before anything is created.

Keyboard first

Type to filter, Space to complete, Enter to edit in place. Your hands never leave the keys.

Capture from any app

Select text anywhere and hit "Add to Barrie". It splits into separate to-dos you can tweak before they're created.

Watch the day empty out

Everything you finish stays in view under Done today, the one list that's supposed to grow. The menu bar counts down while it fills up.

Why I built it

I have ADHD. Every to-do app I tried wanted me to move in first: new lists, new syntax, another place to remember to check. I'd migrate, feel on top of things for about a week, then drift back to Reminders, because that's where my phone, my watch and the shared groceries list already were.

So Barrie doesn't replace any of that. It sits on top of Reminders: adding something takes one keystroke, and finishing something is visible, because the count in the menu bar ticks down while the done list fills up. That's cheap dopamine, and it's the loop my brain actually shows up for.

What people say

You know what it is, today is the first time I’ve visually been able to understand how many tasks I’m getting done in a day without. It’s so minimal and light weight, exactly what an ADHD brain needs. The gamification is real.

Questions

Does it work with Apple Reminders?

That's exactly what Barrie is. It's a companion to Reminders, not a separate app with an import step. It reads and writes the same database Reminders.app uses. Anything you add in Barrie appears on your iPhone, iPad, and watch like any other reminder, and anything you add there shows up in Barrie. There's nothing to connect and nothing to keep in sync.

What does it need to run?

macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, and permission to access your reminders. The Apple Intelligence parsing upgrade needs macOS 26 or later; everything else works without it.

What does it cost?

€7.50, once. No subscription, no trial, no account. Checkout is handled by Polar; you'll receive a license key by email and activate it in the app.

How do I get the app and updates?

Your download link arrives right after purchase. Updates install in-app through Sparkle, cryptographically signed, and are free.

Where does my data live?

In Apple's Reminders database on your device and your iCloud. Barrie has no server, no account, and stores nothing elsewhere.

Which languages does quick add understand?

English and Dutch are fully tested. German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Czech, Romanian, Croatian, Greek, Turkish, Finnish, Hungarian, Hebrew, and Swahili are drafted. Dates, places, priorities and lists all parse; date phrasing is strongest in the Germanic and Romance languages.
